Paleobiology (ZYU5309) is a level 5 Zoology course of the B.Sc. Degree programme. It is a 3-credit course which provides you with a basic understanding of origin of life on earth, paleozoology, paleobotany and paleoanthropology. The knowledge that you will gain from this course is important to the conservation of paleobiology and biodiversity in Sri Lanka.

Mammalian Biology is a specialized branch of Zoology that deals with the study of mammals. This is a level 5 course of BSc Programme. This course provides a broad understanding of structure, function, origin, distribution, taxonomy, adaptive radiation of major groups of mammals, their social and behavioral aspects.

This course is offered by the Department of Zoology for the BSc Honours in Zoology Degree Programme. It is a Level six compulsory course of nine credits. In this course, the student will design and carry out a research project under the guidance of a supervisor.


ZYU5313 - Research Methodology - This  is a three (3) credit compulsory course unit offered at level 5 for students following the BSc Honours degree in Zoology which requires 150 hours of study that includes 30 hours contact sessions, 115 hours of independent learning and 5 hours of  Continuous assessments.  
This course aims to provide you with knowledge and understanding on planning and carrying out scientific investigations and on the methodology and experience in communication of scientific information. 

This is a Level five optional course of six credits, offered by the Department of Zoology for the BSc Degree programme. In this course, you will design and carry out a research under the guidance of a supervisor. 

Only a limited number of students are selected each year, based on criteria announced by the Department. 

The Parasitology (ZYU5304) course deals with the world of parasites. This is one of the Level Five courses offered by the Department of Zoology. It is a three credit course that makes up the Bachelor of Science Degree Programme.

This is a three credits course in the level 4 of Bachelor of Science Degree Programme. The course work of this course will be carried out only during the 1st semester. You need to spend 150 hours for studying this course.

This course on Animal development will give an understanding of how a multicellular organism develops from a zygote, a single cell formed by the union of a sperm and an egg, through a process of progressive change. The morphological changes that occur in the developing embryo and the providing of necessary instructions stored in the eggs and sperms for the development of embryos are described.

ZYU4301 is a Level 4 Zoology course of the B.Sc. Degree programme. It is a 3 credits course conducted jointly with the Department of Botany in first semester. This course provides the theoretical knowledge on ecological concepts and principles that govern the natural settings of your environment.

Animal Life and Diversity, ZYU3500, a 5 credit course offered by the Department of Zoology, This is a compulsory course in level 3 Zoology. It is conducted in both 1st and 2nd semesters. It includes theory sessions and compulsory laboratory ,Field and Museum practical sessions.The course is conduct in three languages.

Biogeography, ZYU3301 is a Level 3 compulsory course unit of the B.Sc Degree Programme, offered by the Department of Zoology. This course is all about distribution of the amazing biodiversity in space and time. It is conducted in both the first semester. It includes theory sessions and a compulsory practical session where you develop most of your study skills and soft skills. The course is conducted in three languages.
